Reds No. 9 Prospect Cabrera Walks it Off in Unorthodox Fashion for Tortugas

Infielder Ricardo Cabrera came up big in one of the most exciting--and obscure--plays of the 2024 season at any level of the minors so far.

Trialing 4-3 to the St. Lucie Mets with one out in the ninth inning and runners on first and second, Cabrera smashed a double to the right-center gap that plated the lead runner. Malvin Valdez tried to score from first to win the game but was thrown out at home plate. Cabrera used that moment to try and take third base, which prompted an errant throw from from the Mets' catcher. No sooner had he left third base following the misfire than Cabrera had his helmet off in celebration, knowing he could cruise into home plate for the winning run and a team celebration.
