10-DAY/15-DAY IL

OF (right wrist)
Expected return: May
Working out at the team’s complex in Goodyear, Ariz., Friedl continues to ramp up his baseball activities. Manager David Bell said Friedl started hitting with the velocity machine on April 27.

“It’s a test because it’s so different than soft toss or a tee,” Bell said. “It’s trying to replicate [facing live pitching]. The medical people didn’t think it made sense to do both for the first time today.”

By the middle of next week, Bell said, Friedl could be ready to start his rehab assignment by joining Triple-A Louisville when they visit St. Paul. Bell projected Friedl would need between one and two weeks before being ready to return to the Reds. (Last updated: April 27)

RHP (right forearm contusion)
Expected return: Early-to-mid May
Montas, who exited his start on April 21 after only 16 pitches when he was hit by a Taylor Ward comebacker, is progressing and is expected to throw off the mound this weekend, manager David Bell said.

Montas is eligible to come off the IL on May 7. (Last updated: April 26)

RHP (right forearm strain)
Expected return: May
Gibaut was expected to throw one inning on April 26 with Triple-A Louisville. He is then scheduled to throw in back-to-back games April 30 and May 1 next week. (Last updated: April 26)

LHP (left shoulder)
Expected return: Late May
After being shut down during Spring Training, Williamson began a throwing program on April 2, but has not worked off of a mound. Manager David Bell expected that Williamson would have to go back to square one of his Spring Training plan and build up to getting through five innings. That likely sets his target to return somewhere near the end of May. (Last updated: April 10)

60-DAY IL

LHP (back)
Expected return: Late May
Young, who dealt with a back injury during Spring Training, was scheduled to throw one inning on April 26 with the ACL Reds in an extended spring training game. The lefty was transferred to the 60-day IL on April 24. Young made just one appearance during the spring on March 12, and will need time to build back up. The progression is expected to take him into late May. (Last updated: April 26)

RHP (right elbow)
Expected return:
2025
Antone was moved to the 60-day IL on April 19 after he had right elbow and arm surgery on April 12 that repaired tears in his ulnar collateral ligament and flexor mass tendon. It was performed in Cincinnati by team orthopedic surgeon Dr. Timothy Kremchek. He is expected to miss the rest of the 2024 season, but a full timetable for a return was not immediately known.

Antone, 30, has a 2.47 ERA over 45 big league games since 2020. (Last updated: April 19)

2B (left shoulder)
Expected return: Possibly second half
McLain had a follow-up visit with a doctor, and there now appears to be a timeline of 4-6 months for a return from his March 26 surgery that repaired his labrum and cartilage damage. Another follow-up is scheduled in about a week.

“There is a chance he gets back this year,” manager David Bell said. (Last updated: April 1)
