
Vasgersian also enjoys a national role with NBC Sports as a member of their award-winning Olympic Broadcast team, as he anchored daily studio coverage of the XXIX 2008 Beijing Games. Matt was at the microphone for the 2004 Athens Games, handling play-by-play for baseball and softball coverage, and for the Winter Games in 2006, announcing Ski Jumping from Torino, Italy. Additionally with NBC, Vasgersian hosts "The National Heads-UP Poker Championship," now in its fourth season. Past duties at NBC have included hosting weekends on the "Sun America Sports Desk," "Poker Superstars" and the 2001 Toyota Gator Bowl.
A 1989 graduate of the University of Southern California, Vasgersian began his baseball career in 1991 in Huntington, WV with the Short-Season Single-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. His ascent through the minors covered a stop at every level of baseball including a Single-A campaign with the Padres in 1992 (High Desert). Vasgersian moved on to Double-A El Paso (Brewers) in 1993-94, Triple-A Syracuse (Toronto Blue Jays) in 1995 and Triple-A Tucson (Houston Astros) in 1996. During the 1995 season, he handled play-by-play on ESPN2's minor league game-of-the-week, "Baseball Across America."
The versatile 41-year-old also lists among his national credits play-by-play with FOX Sports Net's "Baseball Thursday" and FX's "Baseball Saturday Night"; a nightly sports trivia show "Sports Geniuses" on FOX Sports Net; "Celebrity Blackjack" on GSN, and three seasons teaming with NFL Hall-of-Famer Lawrence Taylor on FX's "Toughman World Championship Series." From 2004-06, Vasgersian returned to his alma mater, handling play-by-play for USC Trojans Basketball on FSN West.
Matt's annual charity Texas Hold "Em Tournament last year drew a field of over 300 players and celebrities and benefited Tender Loving Canines Assistance Dogs in Solana Beach and the San Diego County Fallen Officers Fund.
